Sketch Sunday (August 16, 2026)

August 16, 2026

Got a few doodles done this week. Big newsprint week.

I walk for a couple of miles every morning during the week and most of the time it’s uneventful. Last week…somehow…a big snapping turtle had made it’s way to the path. Being a paleo-nerd I started thinking of prehistoric giant swamp turtles and got home and had to draw one. Now I have a couple of ideas for short stories.

As always, I watch a lot of stupid politics. Rick Jackson is a billionaire who made a large chunk of his money with a company called Jackson Healthcare. Bad enough to become a billionaire on the back of the healthcare industry while new polls show most Americans are skipping the doctor over costs, but Ricky boy also likes to portray himself as an “outsider” like old man trump. I believe the part where he wants to be like trump. Particularly the looting of public funds for his own grubby pockets. Oh! And while researching his little company I discovered that Jeb Bush sits on the board of Jackson Healthcare. As many years as I have heard the Bush name (and it’s been the majority of my 55 years) not ONCE have I heard anything regarding any of their “healthcare expertise”. So “outsider” on Ricky’s behalf may be a bit of a mis-labeling. Anyways, he’s a confused and angry looking jackass who I wouldn’t trust with the keys to the cash box of an elementary school bake sale.

“…whut…?”

Next I saw Bill Cassidy deliver a heart breaking performance as he -oh so dramatically- voted to confirm Todd Blanche, trump’s personal lawyer, as the acting attorney general of the United States. The Louisiana senator had said he wouldn’t do it because it is so obviously a conflict of interest…but he teared up and muscled his way through to vote for him anyways. Either he’s a liar or he’s being blackmailed. So, I hope his Frankenstein head-ed self gets what is coming to him.

I like showing this kind of page. Just pure visual gibberish. I’m working out the composition for my next Prehistoric Times submission. The creature I chose for this one is the Balaur Bondoc, a Cretaceous theropod. I have at least four compositional ideas in here and they all just overlap. Somehow I can still see in there. Mostly. Kinda.

And that’s a peek inside my sketchbooks this week. I hope you had a good weekend. I hope something made you smile.
