Tuesday Surprise! (August 18, 2026)

August 18, 2026

I told you I’d let you see! The Paintmonkey’s 2026 Dawg Calendar is here! I started doing these over a decade ago for fun and to continue the legacy of Jack Davis. I grew up right outside of Athens, Ga. and the newspaper would run a cartoon that Mr. Davis did for every game of the season. I was so excited for game day Saturdays!

A calendar of football dates and opponents with a Bulldog mascot/football player smashing a player into the dirt with the football in the other hand.
Sic ’em!

I LOVED college ball. There was a purity and joy to it that I loved. They weren’t as smooth as pro players but they fought with a pride. Now with the draft portal and the NIL giving these kids MILLIONS of dollars…it just seems…icky. I don’t think the schools should be making money off the kids, either. I understand the financial aspects of all of it. The players could get hurt and never make it to the pros and then they’re stuck (cause I’m pretty sure they NEVER went to class). But it has irrevocably changed the game and I’m pretty sure not for the better. With the transfer portal and players looking for a “better deal”…I don’t even know the players names anymore. I rarely watch, but I listen to the radio play by play. I have no idea who is who anymore. The kids come and go so quickly, I can’t learn their names. I am the definition of “confused old man”. Are we on offense? Defense? Did WE score? (Also, they swapped out the broadcast team and I don’t care for the changes.)

But this summer it hit me. My love for Jack Davis and cartooning has never left me. I love doing them and so long as they make people happy, I’ll keep doing them. I may not be as invested in the team, but I’ll always be invested in cartoons!

Anyways…you can buy one HERE. (Sorry about the shipping. The raised it a lot for “weird” packaging…like…tubes. Whatever.)
